There is a service that generates SSL certificates at no cost called SSL for Free. Some of you may have been using this service.
I am still using this service on the old servers. This requires that I go and manually regenerate a new certificate every 90 days.
Two days ago SSL for Free started generating an error “Error please try regenerating your account by using the link near the top of the verification page. If that does not work then please contact us for a fix:” I of course sent an email off. And of course there has been no response.
Fortunately I have been staying on ahead of the expiration dates on these SSL certificates. I have two options. I can remove the SSL certificates from the websites on the old servers, or I can expedite the migration of the websites to the new host. The new host will auto-generate it’s own free SSL certificate, which solves the problem, and ultimately lowers my workload, not having to go back and manually renew expiring certificates.
Of course this happens while I am recovering from surgery. I do have servers expiring that have to be moved, I think they can be move without a problem, this just adds some additional pressue right now,
There is still the possibility that SSL for Free will fix their problems in the near future. This is a heads up for those of you that might be using SSL for Free and have certificates that are going to be expiring.
