I was asleep. I have been recovering from surgery. I have had little sleep the past week. I had finally fallen back to sleep. It was almost 2 am in the morning. The phone rang.
My foot was in so much pain, I couldn’t have made it to the phone in time to answer it if I even wanted to.
We sometimes get an out of their mind telemarketer from India calling to sell us Web hosting in the middle of the night. I don’t know if it’s because the think we are a business, they forget we are in the United States, or they can’t read a clock.
The Holy Spirit prompted me to get up and check out the call though. I have no idea why. It was an Arizona phone number (the phone number means nothing when Telemarketers are calling). He did not seem to think it could wait until morning.
Then I see the caller left a Voicemail.
Now I’m curious so I listen to the Voicemail.
“Hi. I am calling FamilyNet International. The reason I called I want to find out about about Jesus, possibly invite Jesus into my life, into my heart, and to get the know the message of the Bible and possibly turn my life compleley to Jesus. If you could return the call that would be great.”
No pressure here! I was thinking it could have been a joke it sounded like such a setup at 2am in the morning!?! Was it a joke? But as I thought about it more, and all the reasons not to return the call right then… I’m tired, I’m hurting, it will wait until morning… the Holy Spirit hit me… what if he is suicidal and looking for help?
I called back fearing he may have been suicidal or something. I asked why he called at 2am if he didn’t mind my asking? Was he okay? He said he was okay, he said has some mental problems. He said I could could call him back in the morning if I wanted to. I asked if he was thinking clearly now. He said yes.
I asked how he got our number. He told me he found an old Bible tract of ours he had. He said he had it for about 10 years!!!
I led him to the Lord, making sure he understood what I was telling him everything every step of the way.
He did not need an invitation. He told me he wanted to invite Jesus into his life, as his Lord and Savior and asked how he could do that!
I asked him he would like to start taking our Bible lessons. Hes said yes. We will be following up with Bible lessons and I will try to find a good church to get him into. God is good. Please pray for one of God’s newest children…
